A is for Agnes (#AtoZChallenge)

A is for Agnes (#AtoZChallenge)

I have 26 women named Agnes in my family file, one for each letter of the alphabet, There are three Agnes Mary, two Agnes Isabel, two Agnes Jane, three only Agnes.

Agnes is a female given name, which derives from the Greek name Ἁγνὴ hagnē, meaning "pure" or "holy". The name passed to Italian as Agnese, to Portuguese as Inês, and to Spanish, as Inés (Wikipedia).

Do you have an Agnes in your family?

  1. Hi! I most likely do! What I find extremely fascinating is the ability to follow the family line all the way back to Adam and Eve! Funny to see that we are ALL related, isn't it? Funny, yet very fascinating!

  2. As far as I know, there are only two people in my family that were named Agnes. I had an Aunt Agnes and one of her daughters (my cousin) is also an Agnes. I like genealogy and finding out where we came from.
