About me

I live in Brisbane, Queensland and have thought often about blogging. So, instead of just thinking about it, I thought, why not just do it.

While not an expert by any means in family history, I enjoy travelling the roads that my ancestors have visited in the past.

I am retired and enjoy filling my days with family history, reading, desktop publishing, friends, family, music. My music is important to me and generally trying to be relaxed about life. This last doesn't always apply.

I absolutely love cats by the way and had the privilege of Tabitha (Tabby for short) for 19 years until she went to 'cat heaven' in January 2012. After much deliberation, I have decided to have the joy of a new cat. Meet Miss Molly. She is an Australian Mist breed, the breed is a cross of Burmese, Abyssinian & Domestic Shorthair. She is a beautiful companion, and I love her to bits. Molly is a rescue cat from the RSPCA and an indoor cat although she does like to be an escape artist.

My friends tell me I have a wacky sense of humour - well I don't know about that, but I certainly do enjoy the happiness that fun can bring.

Reading is an essential part of my life and has been for as long as I can remember. My mother was a great reader as well and introduced me to books and their magic at a young age.

My favourite book from childhood was The little green road to Fairyland by Annie Rintoul & Ida Rintoul Outhwaite. This was a 1932 edition that had been my mother's precious book. Fortunately, my mother taught me to care for books, you know, don't dog-ear a page, no writing in books, etc. I get so cross when I borrow library books and see stains, underlining and dog-eared corners. I was able to share this book with my son when he was small, and he loved it too.

My music is important to me, and I usually have music playing on my computer while I work, write or design. At this moment I am listening to Bob Dylan singing Forever Young. Yes, I'm a child of the sixties.

What else about me? Well, I have a few significant health problems from an illness in 2009-10 but choose to still get out and about. We all have choices about our life, and I am so often reminded that life is precious and so fragile.

Well, that's enough about me - I hope to explore the context of what was happening in the era my ancestors lived in this blog, why they travelled and where they went. I also hope this is an enjoyable experience.
